Prevention Services develops and maintains a comprehensive, statewide prevention system that averts and reduces alcohol and other drug-related problems, thereby improving the health, safety, and economic conditions of California residents by:
- Modifying social norms and conditions to counter the adverse consequences resulting from alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) availability, manufacturing, distribution, promotion, sale, and use; and
- Effectively addressing at-risk and underserved populations and their environments.
- Collecting, analyzing and reporting Statewide AOD-related data which is used to determine future AOD prevention needs as well as evaluate past performance.
- When applicable, implementing research-based programs that further our understanding and effective implementation of prevention strategies.
