The Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs is responsible for administering prevention, treatment, and recovery services for alcohol and drug abuse and problem gambling.
If you or someone you know has a problem with alcohol, drugs or gambling, there are services available throughout California to help you get on the road to recovery. We hope you will come to rely on this website as a resource to understand the problems associated with alcohol or drug use or problems associated with gambling.

Recovery Month 2010 – 21st Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month
September 1st ADP joins the California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources and the thousands of people who will be celebrating the 21st Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with a kick-off event on the west steps of the State Capitol. The celebration includes an information fair, live entertainment, food, fellowship and special guest speakers, including ADP Director Renee Zito and comedian Mark Lundholm. Join people in recovery from all over the state to celebrate that treatment works and recovery happens.
Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs – Counselors Licensing and Certification Law
The Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs is sponsoring legislation to create a new alcohol and other drug counselor certification and licensing system. While SB 707 (DeSaulnier) was held in Senate Appropriations Committee last year, we will continue our work with stakeholders and to develop and introduce a bill this year.
ADP - Draft Treatment Standards for Substance Abuse Disorders
ADP has completed drafts for review of the "California's Best System Practices" and "Treatment Standards for Substance Use Disorders". These drafts are available on our Treatment Standards Development page and we invite you to provide input.
ADP Offices Closed on Fridays due to Furloughs
The Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs will be closed on the second, third and fourth Fridays of each month due to furloughs pending the passage of the State Budget or the decision by the California Supreme Court on this issue. Staff will return the following Monday except for holidays. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. You may continue to access treatment services online (Alcohol and other Drug Treatment Assistance). If this is a medical emergency, please call 911.
